Buddhist Statues

Statues from the Buddhist tradition

Many images in Buddhism are based on literature that dates back to the Pala period (750-1060 A.D.) Since unity in duality is a central theme in Buddhism, deities manifest in tranquil and fierce aspect, as well as male and female form. Often there are multiple heads and arms. The forms and attributes of the deities are believed to be revealed, and the great variety is needed to meet the needs of each devotee. All symbolize aspects of the 'One'.
